L'alfabeto greco è composto da 24 lettere.

Le lettere greche si pronunciano come sono scritte (vedi alfabeto), ma:

γ ha sempre suono gutturale, anche davanti alle vocali ε, η, ι e alle consonanti λ, ν. Es.: γιγας (pron. ghìgas): gigante
γ davanti alle altre gutturali ( κ, γ, χ, ξ,) si pronuncia n. Es.: άγγελος (pron. ànghelos): angelo
κ ha sempre suono gutturale anche davanti a ε, η, ι. Es.: Κικερων (pron. Kikèron): Cicerone
